Beached Harbor Seal Found At CT State Park

A beached harbor seal was recently found at Hammonasset Beach State Park.

MADISON, CT — A beached harbor seal was found Monday at Hammonasset Beach State Park, according to Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police.

Police said on Facebook the seal was able to make it back out to shore without incident with some coordination from Mystic Aquarium officials. The beached animal was located by Central Marine Officers.

"If you come across what you believe may be a beached seal or other marine animals in distress. please do not approach it," police said on Facebook. "Remember some animals, including this [seal], can become aggressive if someone gets too close."

Those who come in contact these types of animals are cautioned to observe them from a distance and call the 24-hour dispatch center at 860-424-3333.
