The Big Event: Intergenerational Community Service Event Is Back

During the Aug. 7-8 community service project "youth can give back" by lending older residents a hand with around-the-yard and house tasks.

MADISON, CT —Older adults in Madison who could use a hand to get some yard work done, or maybe organize their garage, among other tasks can get that hand as part of the Madison Senior Center and Madison Youth & Family Services' program dubbed The Big Event. This is the sixth year of the project.

This community service event project is a day where "youth can give back to their fellow Madison residents."

The project is an "intergenerational collaboration," where older adults may apply for a job request and the youth volunteers, along with adult volunteers, show up on the day of the Big Event and work on the requested job. These jobs can include but are not limited to mulching, trimming bushes, washing windows, organizing a garage or storage unit, and miscellaneous yard work, for example. The jobs cannot require power tools or ladders for liability reasons.
