Take out: The lengthy to-go menu provides choices of soups and appetizers, vegetable salads or dinner salads such as Taco Ranchero, burgers and sandwiches.
Kid-friendly: Kids will feel comfortable in this casual eatery. The children’s menu lists the always pleasing chicken tenders, grilled cheese, burger and hot dog, but kids will also like house specialties such as chili and nachos.
Why you should go right now: Everyone needs a comfortable neighborhood haunt, and the Ivory fits that bill event if you don’t have a Deep River address. Service is friendly, and chef/co-owner Hernan Yumbla aims to please. A former engineering student, he’s proud of his culinary skills and has succeeded in bringing a Latino flair to the menu. More typical pub fare including steak, fish and chips, barbecued ribs and the signature lobster bisque share the menu with The Ivory’s popular chili relleno, a large poblano chile stuffed with smoked apple wood chicken and mozzarella, and Cazuela de Mariscos, a broiled seafood platter with Spanish rice. Yumbla also hosts monthly wine dinners – the next one will have an Ecuadorian theme – and taps into his Ecuadorian upbringing to inspire daily specials. On Friday and Saturday nights, dinner turns into a show when live music begins at 9 p.m.
