'The Black House' Is On The Market In Madison, Future Plans Revealed

MADISON, CT – The historic Dowd House, better known around Madison as “The Black House,” can be yours for $689,000. A sign outside the house on 875 Boston Post Road says “Luxury Town Homes For Sale.”

Speculation early on was that it might be turned into a restaurant, as builder William Plunkett is well known for opening the popular restaurant Moxie on nearby Wall Street.

Now it is being marketed as a three-unit, luxury condo.

A flyer sitting alongside the sign says the following about the house, which has been the source of wide speculation since it was purchased by building Plunkett’s group back in April of 2014.

“The historic Dowd House, built in 1813, and located in the heart of downtown Madison, has been painstakingly restored by William Plunkett.

“The result is three unique modern condominium units, the first of which is now ready for its first owner.”

The flyer said that unit #1 is 1,140 square feet and has “a whopping 1,050 square feet of private, fenced exterior space.”

The flyer goes on to say that each unit has its own garage and storage area.
