Board Of Ed OKs Schools Budget, Now Heads To Selectmen, Finance

The $59,372,036 2021-2022 budget represents a 1.4 percent increase over last year's spending plan.

MADISON, CT —With a blessing from the board of education, the schools' budget heads to the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Finance for their OK.

According to the town, the board of education-approved budget represents a 1.4 percent increase over last year and stands at $59,372,036.

According to schools superintendent Dr. Craig Cooke, the budget highlights include:

Additions:

  • Continues security positions that were added for this year
  • Technology Support Specialist position
  • Math Interventionist Position for DHHS
  • Madison Intervention Academy to provide support to students next school year
  • Provides Interactive display boards for all CORE classrooms and beyond
  • Provides an additional $75,000 for security initiatives across the district

  • 3.2 FTE Reduction due to delayed curriculum cycle and declining enrollment
  • Decrease in staff development due to fewer PD days next year
  • Decrease in health insurance due to positive claims experience

The budget includes security positions added this year, with other additions including the Madison Intervention Academy to provide support to students next school year.
