Connecticut Hotelier Lou Carrier Earns UMass Distinguished Leader Award
Carrier, whose company runs Madison Beach Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, was honored at a recent UMass Amherst awards gala in Boston.
MADISON, CT — Connecticut hotelier Lou Carrier, president of Distinctive Hospitality Group in Natick, Massachusetts, received the 2026 Distinguished Industry Leader Award on April 13, from the Isenberg School of Management’s Hospitality and Tourism Management Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Carrier was recognized during the school’s annual awards gala at the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport.
Carrier is a 1988 graduate of the school. He was introduced at the event by Jennifer Lucas, senior vice president of Loews Hotels and a former colleague. Distinctive Hospitality Group owns and operates the Hilton Mystic Hotel, Madison Beach Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, and Spark by Hilton Mystic.
According to the school, the Distinguished Industry Leader Award recognizes an individual who demonstrates exceptional leadership, innovation and impact within the hospitality sector. Carrier’s career has spanned decades and included work across the United States with Stouffer Hotels, Loews Hotels, Hard Rock Hotels and Hilton hotels before he established Distinctive Hospitality Group’s portfolio in New England.

"It’s a great honor to be recognized by the Isenberg School of Management, which played a formative role in my career," said Carrier. "I’m proud to have received my education in the Hospitality and Tourism Management school and equally proud this incredible program continues to evolve and prepare new leaders for our industry. It’s a source of pride and obligation to support the school and these fine young professionals."
Under Carrier’s leadership, Distinctive Hospitality Group has built a reputation for managing distinctive properties across New England, with an emphasis on service, community connection and long-term value, according to the school.

Carrier also serves on the board of directors of the Connecticut Restaurant and Hospitality Association and the New England Inns and Resorts Association. He is also a member of Mystic Aquarium’s President Council.
