OLD SAYBROOK, CT - The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, “the Kate”, welcomes the award-winning Scottish folk group Breabach on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at 7:30 pm.
Securely ranked among Scotland’s most skilled and imaginative contemporary folk acts, Breabach unite deep roots in Highland and Island tradition with the innovative Scottish music scene. In December 2023 the band were finalists in ‘Album of the Year’ at the BBC Alba Scots Trad MusicAwards. Later that month the band released their collaborative lockdown soundtrack to a brand new animation entitled Dùsgadh to the public. The feature had been recorded during lockdown and previously released in private ticketed screenings to great acclaim including being entered into the Official Selection: Edinburgh International Film Festival and the FilmG Open Competition in 2023.
In December 2022 Breabach were the winners of ‘Folk Band of the Year ’at the BBC ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. To date they have released seven increasingly acclaimed albums, whilst fueling their creative appetites in collaborations with BAFTA award-winning animator Cat Bruce on the short film Dùsgadh, indigenous Australasian artists Moana & The Tribe, Quebec’s Le Vent du Nord, video game composer Big Giant Circles and as artists-in-residence at 2019’s Celtic Colours festival with Cape Bretoners, Beòlach.
