Coronavirus Madison: Several Facilities Closed, Events Canceled

MADISON, CT — First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons and Director of Health Trent Joseph announced several closures and cancellations.

"In light of the rapidly evolving public health emergency situation and the closure of Madison Public Schools, the Town of Madison is making the following announcements on closures, postponements and adjustments to Town business, Town facilities, and Town-sponsored events, effective March 13, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. and through March 31, 2020:

1. The following Town Facilities will be closed to the public and all Town sponsored events, activities and meetings using these facilities have been cancelled:
   • Town Gym
   • Surf Club Building
   • Memorial Town Hall
   • The Arts Barn
   • Bauer Classroom
2. All Town athletic fields are closed to all organized sports activities until March 31st. Further guidance will be provided as the situation evolves. To sign up for Madison breaking news alerts and more, click here.
3. The Board of Education has announced the closure of the Madison Public Schools starting Monday, March 16, 2020 until further notice. All Town sponsored Before & After School programs are therefore suspended. Determinations for vacation activities and vacation camps will be forthcoming.
4. All private schools, day-care and early childhood development programs and/or facilities have been directed to follow the guidelines of the Madison Public Schools closure notice.
5. The Board of Selectmen intends to meet over the next few days to establish further policies and procedures regarding maintaining essential government operations for next week and beyond; and how to conduct public meetings such as Town Meetings, Public Hearings and Boards & Commission Meetings in compliance with Town Charter and State Statute regulations. Further guidance and directives will be provided at that time.
6. The Town continues to advise that all large public gatherings (100 participants or more) be postponed until April 30th and that the community continue to practice social distancing for smaller gatherings.
7. As announced yesterday, The Madison Senior Center is closed to the public as of 2 p.m. today. All activities, programs, transportation, lunch and rentals are cancelled (meals on wheels will continue). We will continue to provide Meals-on-Wheels services as long as practical.

The Town also continues to advise that anyone feeling sick should stay home, self-monitor, self-quarantine, and not report to work or school. The Town of Madison has provided direction to Town employees on what measures to take pertaining to self-quarantine measures.
