Daniel Hand High School's Joe Barber Continues to Fight

Barber, 18, was seriously injured in a diving accident but despite everything he's been through he continues to remain upbeat.

Daniel Hand High School Student Joe Barber admits there were times last year where he asked “Why God” concerning his serious diving accident, which left him currently as a quadriplegic.

But Barber has battled through four major surgeries and numerous other procedures and has a positive outlook for 2016, noting this year will be a “lot better than 2015,” according to the Shoreline Times.

Barber, 18, suffered a C-5 spinal cord injury while diving at the Surf Club in Madison in August.

Since then he’s been rehabbing and is currently living for free at the Madison Beach Hotel while renovations are ongoing on his parent’s home in Madison, the Shoreline Times reports.

Barber said he has hope he won’t be wheelchair bound for too long as the injury was incomplete and he might regain some movement.

Barber and his parents thanked Madison residents and especially the Daniel Hand High School community for all of their support. He said he’s looking forward to returning to school, graduating and going onto college, the paper reports.

Barber and his family are in need of monetary donations for renovations to their home and medical bills.
