Despite Challenges, Madison's First Selectman Vows to Reduce Tax Rate
The town is facing a 15 percent increase in health insurance costs currently for next year.

During the campaign Madison First Selectman Thomas Banisch vowed to take a new look at how the town does its budget.
Banisch, who has been on the job for two months, is facing some tough circumstances for his first municipal budget process.
Madison’s health insurance costs are increasing 15 percent, the Board of Education is seeking approximately a $1.3 million increase, and the town operations are increasing $200,000, the Madison Source reports.

Banisch vows to do everything he can to reduce the mill rate. Currently, the tax rate is 25.76 mills and his goal is 25.50 mills for next year.
He said some people have expressed concern about the town’s tax situation, the Source reports.

Banisch, for example, is using a Grant Finder tool to see if Madison is eligible for more grants.
He said he is also exploring additional revenue options for the town.
