The end of the busy summer season means more work is coming to the downtown Madison area.

MADISON, CT – The end of summer means work will soon ramp up on one of the most significant aspects of the multi-million dollar downtown center project.
That is the removal of the overhead utilities, which will be replaced with new energy efficient LED lighting.

Economic Development Commission member Ryan Duques said the utility poles should be coming down right after Labor Day. He reported that information to fellow EDC members.
Duques said he had received a number of inquiries about when the poles would be coming down. He said the reason the work was delayed is that the town didn’t want to disrupt the busy summer traffic the downtown area gets.

The downtown project got underway in July of 2015.
Once completed the following work will have been completed:
--- replacing sidewalks with brick pavers;
--- remove overhead utilities;
--- install new energy efficient LED lighting;
--- install new center median with irrigation and electrical service;
--- install new granite curbing;
--- replace street trees
Officials said the work badly needed because the downtown had been neglected for decades; sidewalks, median and lighting was outdated and crumbling.
The town secured over $1.8 million in grants for the project.
Officials state that over 11,500 vehicles pass through downtown Madison on an average day.
