MADISON, CT – As the days of summer wind down those who keep track of traffic at the state’s largest shoreline park say 2017 has been a good year.
The summer season started out a bit chilly, but the months of July and August have warmed up.
And, so has the attendance at Hammonasset State Beach Park in Madison.
“The park was very busy (this summer),” said Christine Koster, president of the Friends of Hammonasset.
“The Meigs Pont Nature has been extremely busy and thousands have made a visit,” said Koster.
Koster noted that due to the ongoing state budget problems there will be no fall camping season, meaning the campground is closing on Labor Day.
She said, “Many will miss the September and early October camping,” noting that many who normally camp in Madison will be camping in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island parks this fall, instead.
