“It’s probably the first major change in the way sheetrock has been made in 30 to 40 years,” says owner Charlie Hale. UltraLight cuts the same and can be applied the same way as the old stuff. Manufacturer USG claims UltraLight is stronger, too. While the product isn’t technically considered “green,” an additional 250 pieces can be put onto a trailer load. “That’s more product for the same amount of gas to get it to us,” Hale hails.

Essex Golf Shoppe & Sportswear, the retailer found on Main Street in Old Saybrook, opened a second location within on March 1. Renovations to the building were made over the winter, and Essex Golf is leasing over 700 square feet on Route 79. The new digs offers hard goods (clubs, bags, balls and gloves) while the Saybrook location offers both hard and soft goods (apparel). Custom fitting and computerized fitting for golf clubs are offered in both stores.
