Former Madison First Selectman Reflects on 6 Years at the Helm
Fillmore McPherson reflects on accomplishments and some of the more difficult times in office.

As Thomas Banisch was sworn in as First Selectman Monday in Madison, now former First Selectman Fillmore McPherson looked back at his six years in office.
During a Board of Selectmen meeting last month, McPherson cited the following accomplishments that he is most proud of.
First Selectman McPherson noted that these were his last comments as First Selectman and also the end of this 6th year in this position, according to the October 26 selectmen meeting minutes.

He noted some accomplishments during his tenure including the establishment of the Madison- Guilford Probate Court; Salt Meadow Park; Surf Club Improvements; completion of the new Senior Center; completion of the new Ambulance Garage; and Downtown renovations which commenced this year.
He also noted that the Land Use Department was reorganized; the Police Department was restructured; Senior Services were restructured to provide better services to Town seniors; and the Town received AAA ratings from two credit rating institutions.

First Selectman McPherson also noted trials that the Town faced weather-related issues together including; Super Storm Sandy, Hurricane Irene, etc.
He also noted tragedies faced on a state-wide level including the Sandy Hook tragedy; and the combat death of Captain Andrew Pederson Keel.
First Selectman McPherson also noted his experiences meeting with Town residents and through community outreach, for instance, reading to various school classrooms. He thanked the community for allowing him to have these experiences.
