Hand Students Named SCC Scholar Athletes of the Month

Hand’s Lauren Cole and Drew Harmon were among the 14 student-athletes from eight high schools to be named The SportsCenter of Connecticut/Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Athletes of the Month for April.
Now in its ninth year, The SportsCenter of Connecticut/SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month program honors outstanding young men and women each month during the school year.
“Many thanks to the Sports Center of Connecticut for its support of the SCC and the Scholar Athlete of the Month program,” SCC Commissioner Al Carbone said. “This conference has been proud of its success for the last 20-plus years, and to be able to recognize outstanding young men and women who demonstrate the desire and ability to succeed solidifies what the SCC is all about.”

Student athletes who are selected must be a varsity letter-winner and have a 3.0/B average while demonstrating leadership qualities such as: being a positive role model; helping teammates overcome adversity; showing a commitment to self-improvement; or putting the needs of the team before themselves.
Sports Center of CT/SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month recipients and receive a certificate, commemorative T-shirt and a SportsCenter of Connecticut activity pass.

Cole, one of the top lacrosse players in the SCC and state, has been a stellar performer in the classroom. A member of the National Honor Society, she sports a 4.33 grade-point average.
On the lacrosse field, Cole was a two-time All-SCC honoree and was named the 2014 OrthoNOW/SCC Player of the Year.
In 2015, she was a key part of the Tigers’ run to the SCC championship.
“Lauren is an outstanding student-athletes with a tremendous work ethic on the field and in the classroom,” Daniel Hand girls lacrosse coach Kevin Siedlecki said. “She is a great role model for the team.”
Harmon, a standout member of the Tigers’ baseball team, has been a high honors student, sporting a 4.25 grade-point average. He is a member of the Young Republicans and is a volunteer Junior Fire Fighter.
“Drew is an exceptional student athlete and all-around person,” Daniel Hand athletic director Craig Semple said. “He is an exemplary role model who embodies everything a well-rounded high school athlete should represent.”
