June At The Scranton Library: Storytelling, Shopping, and Kimonos

In early June at Scranton Library enjoy a day of shopping, a live story concert and, learn about, and try on a vintage Japanese kimono.

Wednesday, June 1

Join us to hear about the history of the kimono, the Japanese traditional robe recognizable around the world. You will learn about its cultural significance in Japan, the role it has played in women’s lives over the centuries, and the variety of kimonos for different occasions and formalities. You’ll even have the chance to try on vintage kimonos during a dressing demonstration!

The Ubuntu Storytellers, a group of diverse performance artists, lead this riveting live story concert at the library! In Yoruba, the word “Ase” means “so it shall be” and expresses the power of change. The narratives will be performed by multiple tellers who will engage you in a slice of their lives, warm your heart and expand your imagination.
