Kokoruda Supports Bill To Improve Classroom Safety

MADISON, CT - From Connecticut General Assembly: State Representative Noreen Kokoruda (R-Madison, Durham), House Republican Caucus Chair and member of the legislature’s Education Committee, voted in favor of H.B. 453, An Act Concerning Classroom Safety And Disruptive Behavior.

The bill would require schools to add daily classroom safety to their school climate plans, require reporting of safety incidents to the State Department of Education, protect teachers and develop intervention and prevention strategies.

“I am proud to support legislation that puts in place protocols to help protect students and staff from dangerous conduct; and to promote dialogue between administration and classroom teachers to start addressing these problems,” said Rep. Kokoruda.

“Keeping our schools safe is always of the upmost importance,” added Rep. Kokoruda.

Rep. Kokoruda who serves on the Education Committee also co-sponsored the legislation. The bill passed the House by 124-25 and the Senate by 36-0. The bill now awaits Governor Malloy’s signature.To read more about this and other legislation visit www.cga.ct.gov.
