Madison Art Dealer Called a "Serial Fraudster" Continuing to Sell Art on eBay

The man from Guilford has been using the online platform to sell art and victims were swindled out of up to $1 million, officials say.

David Crespo, 59, of Guilford was formerly charged with a 12-count indictment for selling fraudulent art from his Madison based, Brandon Gallery.

According to the Register, Crespo has been using the identity “Metartpro” to sell art on eBay. A man in Columbus, Ohio recently purchased three artworks from Crespo online and later learned of his fraudulent dealings. The buyer was interviewed by the FBI regarding the purchase.

Crespo has been called a “serial fraudster” by federal prosecutors and has pleaded guilty to one of the counts against him, disputing other claims saying he did not know that the artwork he sold was fake.

The government says that Crespo has victimized more than 10 people, the Register reports. Additionally, the loss to the victims has been calculated at between $400,000 to $1 million.
