Madison Beach Hotel GM Named CT Tourism 'Leader of the Year'

From Madison Beach Hotel: John Mathers, general manager of Madison Beach Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton has been named “Leader of the Year” by the Connecticut Office of Tourism.
Mathers is among five other individuals and organizations recognized by Governor Dannel P. Malloy and officials from the Connecticut Office of Tourism for their outstanding contributions to Connecticut's $14.7 billion tourism industry at the annual Connecticut Governor's Conference on Tourism.
"Tourism does more than contribute to our excellent quality of life in Connecticut, it also drives our economy by generating sales, tax revenues and creating jobs," said Gov. Malloy. "Our investments in tourism have literally put Connecticut back on the map, and are producing real, tangible results. It's an honor to celebrate the people and organizations that have dedicated significant time and energy to ensure the tourism sector remains vibrant."

Mathers is recognized as an industry leader committed to making the beautiful Connecticut shoreline a must-visit for both in and out of state visitors by providing the best customer experience possible.
Since opening in 2012, and under Mathers’ leadership of the last six years, the hotel has been awarded two of the industry’s highest honors: AAA’s 4 Diamond Rating and Hilton Hotel’s very prestigious “Connie Award.” The Connie is awarded to the Curio Hotel - collection by Hilton property that perfects the balance of product and outstanding service scores. These awards bring national and international visibility to the hotel, the town of Madison, and the state of Connecticut as top tourist destinations.
“This recognition reflects the efforts of many hard-working and talented people with whom I have the pleasure of working,” said Mathers. “This includes not only my world-class team at the Madison Beach Hotel, but also the wonderful people throughout the Town of Madison, the Shoreline, and the entire state of Connecticut. We have so much to offer visitors to our region. It’s no wonder the secret is getting out: Connecticut is no longer the “drive-through” state, it’s now the “drive-to” state!”
An alumnus of Paul Smith’s College, Mathers is a member of the Madison Chamber of Commerce and Greater New Haven Chamber. He serves on Town of Madison Zoning Board, a public relations committee focused on promoting tourism in the New Haven region and is a member of NEIRA (New England Inns & Resorts Association.) During his tenure as a Chamber member, Mathers has played an integral role in cultivating professional partnerships resulting in driving international travel to Madison in particular, and Connecticut in general, Last year, Madison Beach Hotel hosted the Ireland Tourism Board.
In June 2015, Madison Beach Hotel was selected to join Curio Collection by Hilton, a global collection of distinct, unique upscale hotels and resorts characterized by independent style and their local communities.
