Madison Beach Hotel hosts contest to collect memories from the old days
Open summers-only from 1976 to 2009, The Crow's Nest at the Madison Beach Hotel was family-owned for three generations.

Open summers-only from 1976 to 2009, The Crow's Nest at the Madison Beach Hotel was family-owned for three generations. Famous for its food, view and live entertainment, the restaurant bar was a well-loved destination for the Madison area.
Even though The Crow’s Nest closed in 2009, a booth inside The Wharf Restaurant at the hotel was recently christened as a lasting tribute to The Crow’s Nest.
In addition, the hotel is hosting an online contest to collect stories, recollections and photos of The Crow’s Nest in its glory days. Participants are invited to submit their memories at crowsnest@madisonbeachhotel.com by August 15. The memories will then be posted on the Madison Beach Hotel Facebook page. The top three memories with the most post likes by September 4 win.

Prizes include an overnight stay at the Madison Beach Hotel with dinner for two; brunch for two at The Wharf; and a fifty-dollar gift certificate to The Wharf Restaurant.
When The Crow’s Nest opened each April, it was regarded as the harbinger of Spring,” said Beth McDevitt, restaurant manager of The Wharf. “The Crow’s Nest was the place to go when you turned twenty-one, the place for live music and dancing, the place to enjoy July fourth fireworks, the place to meet up with family and friends.”

As the sixth season of the Grassy Strip Music Series gets underway at Madison Beach Hotel, McDevitt recalls the original bands that played The Crow’s Nest during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
“The earliest band was The Brothers Three, a lounge lizard style trio who played the same set every weekend,” said McDevitt. “My grandmother would say you could set your watch to the set list. People loved them.”
Other popular musicians included The Radiators, The Subdudes, Deedee and The Road Kings, Peter Mayer, and Christine Olhman. Both Mayer and Olhman are playing the Grassy Strip this summer.
“The Crow’s Nest had so many regulars who always sat on the same stool, at the same time, and ordered the same drink,” said McDevitt. “You could look around the bar, see these people, and know “all is right in the world.” With this contest, we’re looking to reminisce with old friends who should visit and see how we have the same comfortable, sincere atmosphere. And the view hasn’t changed.”
