Madison’s bare, center median is set to be planted this week. The median, which was replaced during the Madison Center Project separates the east and west bound lanes of Route 1 in downtown Madison. Mike Ott, town engineer for Madison announced earlier this week that landscapers are scheduled to be in town on Thursday and Friday to plant the median, which has been designed by landscape architects from Milone and MacBroom.
Major construction for phase one of the project concluded on June 30. Over the next couple of months there will be several finishing touches done, including the median planting and installation of light fixtures.

Phase one of the project started last fall and includes reconstruction of the sidewalks on both sides and the center median from Wall Street and Samson Rock Drive to the gas stations (Henny Penny and Cumberland Farms). The project also includes running underground utilities and irrigation as well as installation of new light poles, tree grates and bike racks.
Over 30 new trees, which were planted last month and the median plantings will benefit from the newly installed underground irrigation system, which will ensure that all of the new plantings, on the sidewalks and in the center median are provided with the correct amount of water. This irrigation system is one of the first of its kind installed for a municipal street scape project.
