Madison Chief Drumm Named To Police Accountability Task Force
Task force pillars include transparency and to build trust through adopting a "guardian versus warrior culture of policing."

MADISON, CT — Madison Police Department Chief John “Jack” Drumm was appointed to the Connecticut Task Force to Study Police Transparency and Accountability.
Drumm, appointed as a voting member of the task force, will work with 10 other voting members and three non-voting members to address the issues of "their charge."
The Task Force has been charged largely with evaluating how police interact with the community and in particular, according to its website, people with mental, intellectual and physical disabilities as well as how police conduct traffic stops, execute warrants, respond to civilian complaints and police accountability and transparency. The charge is also to recruit people of color to serve as police officers.

It also has as its pillars to build trust through changing police culture by adopting a "guardian versus warrior culture of policing," to getting back to community policing by ending "broken window" policing — the policy of "cracking down" on small crimes to stop major crimes —engaging more with the community, reducing "aggressive law enforcement that stigmatizes youth," and stop the 'school-to-prison pipeline' through youth engagement.

Drumm’s appointment to the task force was approved Jan. 21, and was immediately effective.
