Madison Considering 5-School Model Now: Report

This proposal would include the closing of one existing school.

MADISON, CT — There is nothing finalized as of yet but it looks like Madison school officials are leaning toward closing one elementary school, Island Avenue, and renovating both Ryerson and Jeffery, the Madison Source reports.

Walter C. Polson Middle School would also be renovated too. Officials also believe once Island Avenue is closed they could get $2.75 million for the land.

The price tag for this plan would be $45 million after state reimbursement.

Officials cautioned much work remains ahead before any plan receives final approval. The school board is still in the "study phase" officials told the Madison Source.

Currently, Madison has six schools and this proposal would reduce that to five schools. Officials have also looked at adopting a four-school model.
