Madison Discusses Use of Drones, Dog Park Creation and More

Madison is seeking a grant for a dog park.

MADISON, CT — The town's Beach and Recreation Commission met last week and several topics were discussed.

According to meeting minutes, Strong Field, a dog park, and the use of drones were discussed in detail.

Strong Field – First Selectman Thomas Banisch stated that they were still working with the state and the local bidder of the project to construct the two field houses. Hope to get it all straightened out and work to start mid September with a completion in the Spring of 2017. Work on Plaza moving along.

Facilities – Director Scot Erskine reported that the parking lot fencing was being completed and that some brickwork was needed as by the building.

Banisch reported that the bids for Upper Town Campus Came in well over budget. Field plan will need to be revisited to see what we can do or if we just leave it alone.

Bauer Park Committee working on the Festival, Donations are coming in.

Grant submitted by Erskine to help fund the Dog Park. He will find out at the end of August if the project gets funded. Could be up to $25,000. Also working on a donation board to help bring awareness and push for more public financing.

Drones: Agenda was opened at the request of First Selectman Banisch to discuss the use of Drones in town.

Banisch reported that he had met with Town Insurance. Right now town does not allow the use of Drones. Will need to be more formalized soon. Awaiting word back from Insurance company. He distributed sample
ordinances for the commission to look at. He did not ask for any work to be done at the present time. He just wanted to give the heads up to the Commission.
