Madison Discussing Senior Tax Freeze
An attorney recently shared at a meeting how much the program might cost Madison residents.

During the last municipal election both Joan Walker and Tom Banisch spoke about the need to address the high cost of living for seniors in Madison.
And two weeks after the election was decided officials listened to a presentation on the topic of a tax freeze for seniors, which could cost residents about $135,000 annually or about $60 a year for each non-participant, the Madison Source’s Jack Kramer reports.
Attorney Scott Gyllensten, who formed the Madison Cares Coalition to help move the issue of senior tax relief ahead, led a presentation before residents and members of the Board of Selectmen.

A committee could be formed to address the issue and Gyllensten said he doesn’t see why it couldn’t be in place for next year. No public action or vote was taken. Town officials would have to decide on eligibility requirements.
