Madison Downtown Construction to Restart Monday: What You Need to Know

MADISON, CT - A mild winter will allow the Madison Center Project to resume construction on Monday, March 14.

Town Engineer, Mike Ott confirmed today that construction on the second part of Phase 1 will begin Monday.

It is expected that demolition of the old sidewalks and curbing will begin at the southeast corner of town, in front of the Monroe Building (across from the post office). Demolition and construction will move west, down the south side of town, similar to last fall’s construction on the north side of town.

“The EDC is thrilled that this project can get started early in the year and we are hopeful that phase one of the project is complete by early summer,” said Ryan Duques, Madison EDC Chair in a statement.

Phase one of the project, which started last fall includes reconstruction of the sidewalks on both sides and the center median from Wall Street and Samson Rock Drive to the gas stations (Henny Penny and Cumberland Farms).

This includes running underground utilities and irrigation as well as installation of new light poles, tree grates and bike racks.

During construction this spring, parking on the south side of town will be partially limited. While all efforts will be made to minimize disruption, parking spaces will be blocked to allow a safe and efficient progress.

Business owners, residents and visitors are reminded to adhere to all posted parking restrictions. Madison’s main street, the west side of Wall Street and the parking area immediately behind RJ Julia’s and People’s Bank on the south side of main street have a two hour parking limit Monday – Friday and as posted.

Untimed parking is available in the parking area just to the east of the Stop and Shop lot.
