Madison Energy Challenge Seeks to Slash Energy Usage, Promote Green Energy

There will be a workshop later this month.

The Madison Energy Challenge, a new, limited time program run by the town of Madison and partners that seeks to reduce local energy consumption and promote green energy, will kick off at a workshop on March 25

The event will be at 6 p.m. at Town Hall and include refreshments.

Attending the workshop will be experts from the town’s partners, CT Solar Challenge, Aegis Solar Energy, New England Conservation Services and Energy Resource Group. They will explain state programs that seek to reduce energy usage and make homes and businesses more efficient through solar installations, insulation upgrades and other measures.

They will also discuss how homeowners and business owners can take advantage of federal tax credits, state rebates and loan and lease options that significantly reduce the cost of energy-saving and green measures.

“We are excited to offer Madison Energy Challenge program that supports recipients who create unique energy projects and teach their communities how to replicate them,” First Selectman Fillmore McPherson said in a prepared statement. “Through programs like Madison Energy Challenge, we can support those who find ways to develop affordable and
reliable energy projects and put them into practical use.”

The program reflects the town’s continuing dedication to improving the quality of life for its residents by promoting renewable energy and energy conservation, McPherson added.

Madison Energy Challenge will only operate 16 weeks because of limited funding and the uncertain future of state programs. Residents and businesses must sign up by June 30 to receive generous state incentives and premium pricing on insulation upgrades, solar installations and other energy conservation measures.

For every installation, Aegis Solar Energy, New England Conservation Services, Energy Resource Group and New England Conservation Services will donate $25 toward a fund providing fuel assistance to Madison residents in need.
