Madison Farm to be Preserved for Recreational Use
The owners wanted to ensure the land would never be developed.

Fred and Rosa Rettich have forever left Madison residents a gift.
After their passing, the couple wanted to ensure their farm, which overlooks the Hammonasset River, would be preserved and never developed.
So they left the land to the Madison Land Trust, which is in the process of demolishing about 25 structures including the house on the property, the New Haven Register reports.

The structures on the property are not structurally sound and it would cost too much money to preserve them, officials told the Register.
No long-term uses have been decided for the land but some thoughts include walking trails and a place for picnicking.
