Madison Food Truck Saga Has a New Twist

Supporters of the food trucks are holding "Madison Food Truck Appreciation Day" later this month to counteract protestors.

There’s been protests recently against the presence of food trucks in certain locations of Madison, and now a group of supporters is actually organizing “Madison Food Truck Appreciation Day,” which is scheduled for Friday, April 24.

“This is an event to allow the citizens of Madison to come down at their convenience and purchase a food item from the trucks to show their support for them being there,” said one of the event’s organizers Richard (Rik) Lammers.

“Since some have panned the town survey as not truly accurate or representative of the town support, this should provide tangible evidence of the majority of Madison residents being supportive of the food truck vendors,” added Lammers.

A survey conducted by the town last year revealed that almost 90 percent of residents were supportive of the food trucks and having them located on School Street.

Lammers said organizers coordinated with all 5 trucks who are typically there on Fridays and they are all participating.

The following are the food truck vendors who will be there and their hours of operation:

Tacqueria Cinco (10 – 7)

Taco Pacifico (12-7)

High Tide Gourmet (12-7)

Sugar Bakery Cupcake (3:30-6:30)

Meriano’s Canoli (3-7).

Lammers said he has coordinated with the Madison Police Department to insure a smooth event and they will be dealing with any issues from the protesters (Friends of Village Committee).

He said in the past the protesters have parked their cars there to try and prevent the food trucks from parking on School Street.

“The Madison Police have assured me that the food trucks have a right to be there and they will deal appropriately with any issues that happen. We want to encourage all supporters and all Madison citizens to do the same and avoid any sort of confrontation,” Lammers said.
