Madison Girl Makes Rare Black Widow Spider Discovery, Twice
She's keeping one a mason jar.
MADISON, CT — On separate occasions this month, a seven-year-old Madison girl has discovered black widow spiders at her home, a rare sighting reports WTNH-TV.
Payton Mascari spotted the spiders about a week apart, and is keeping one that she named "Sarah" in a mason jar.
There are probably only a handful of the creepy-crawlers in the immediate area, and they typically hide in stone walls, making them difficult to see, according to entomologist Dr. Gale Ridge.
