Madison Man Turns Tragedy Into a Business Protecting Dogs

Chris Given was recently named the number one dealer in the country for invisible fencing.

Chris Given, of Madison, has loved animals his entire life.

Now he makes a living protecting them. After losing his beloved dog in an accident after escaping a non-contained yard, Chris embarked on a career with Dog Guard a decade ago, protecting dogs through the installation of invisible fencing, one home at a time.

This year, Given became the number one dealer in the country, and he couldn’t be happier.

“I’m so thrilled,” Given said in a prepared statement. “This job is very physical and challenging, but it’s so rewarding, and it’s such an honor to take the number one spot in the country.”

Given said Dog Guard is committed to providing each customer with solutions and customizing each job to the yard and dog.

Aside from bringing his extensive knowledge of electronics, Given uses his own dogs, a Rottweiler and a Dalmatian mix as to provide distraction techniques, teaching dogs-in-training to the perimeters of the yard, to make sure they’re thoroughly trained.

“We don’t consider a job complete until every dog is completely trained and comfortable with the system,” Given said in a prepared statement. “It feels great leaving a job, watching the dog finally run and play with their owners totally at ease.”

Residing in Madison with his wife and two children, Given also works closely with many rescues and shelters in the area to help get dogs adopted into loving homes.

Given was selected by volume of sales and customer service feedback. He sells, services and trains dogs to invisible fence systems through his company Dog Guard of CT. His business is located in Madison but he services the whole state.
