Madison Officials Changing Attitude on Food Trucks?

Officials plan to use the town website to gauge resident reaction to food trucks.

Are Madison officials having a change of heart regarding the presence of food truck vendors in town.

It’s starting to appear that way.

This week the Madison Board of Selectmen voted 3-1 Monday night to allow food trucks “if they wish” to move to the more visible north side of School Street for a two-week period to see if business picks back up again, reports The Source’s Jack Kramer.

It was First Selectman Fillmore McPherson who proposed the change. In addition, town officials will erect a sign on Route 1 directing people to the food trucks new location, and plan to revisit the issue in a couple of weeks.

The town also plans to use its website to gauge feedback on the topic of food trucks in town and where residents would like them to be located, The Source reports.

If you haven’t been following the Madison food truck debate here is some background. This summer the selectmen voted to move the trucks from near the Green to Academy Street has essentially hurt business and now food truck vendors are taking action including scaling back their hours of operations, The Source has reported

Taco Pacifico owner Greg Sharon has told Jack Kramer that he had to leave Madison and may return in September. There is only one other food truck that made the move.

When Madison decided to move the controversial food trucks from the more visible Boston Post Road location near the Green to Academy Street several trucks didn’t make the move.

Besides moving to a less desirable location they have to pay a $500 parking fee and there are certain dates that they can’t be there.
