Madison Police: Armed Convicted Felon Fled Accident Scene, Knocked on Residents Doors

Madison police say the man had a pistol, bullets and heroin in his possession at the time of his arrest.

Police say an armed convicted felon from New Haven, who fled an accident scene on Interstate 95 in Madison, ended up on foot in a residential neighborhood, and began knocking on Madison homeowners doors, but police were able to apprehend the suspect without incident, said Police Sgt. Joseph A. Race on Wednesday.

The incident began at 8:43 p.m. Tuesday as the Madison Police Department’s Patrol Division apprehended the wanted armed subject, Richard Robert Pommer, 30, of Howe Street in New Haven, who was fleeing the scene of an accident that he was involved in on Interstate 95 northbound near Exit 60, Race said.

The subject fled and was located on foot in a residential Madison neighborhood when police were alerted to the area after Pommer began knocking on doors asking to use a telephone, police said.

Pommer was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Madison Police Department for processing.

Pommer is a previously convicted felon and was currently wanted on a Connecticut Department of Corrections Parole re-arrest warrant and arrest warrant from Connecticut State Police Troop I.

Pommer was wanted for escape in the first degree, police said.

When he was charged, Pommer was in possession of 54 folds of heroin marked “FOXY”; Glock® Model 26 9 mm pistol; and 55 9 mm bullets, Race said.

Pommer was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a permit, theft of a firearm, and fifth-degree larceny, and illegal possession with intent to sell.

Pommer was held on a $100,000 bond and a remand order from the Connecticut Department of Corrections.
