Madison Police: Registering Home Security Cameras To Fight Crime

Having an extra set of eyes is always helpful to the police and what's been helpful to Madison.

MADISON, CT - Having an extra set of eyes is always helpful to the police and what’s been helpful to Madison and other police departments in increasing cases is the use of residential home security cameras to apprehend criminals.

At the December Board of Police Commissioners meeting, Capt. Joseph Race said a new initiative has been started, namely surveillance camera registration, asking residents if they have a camera to please fill out a website form for police to keep on file and have as a good reference point as needed.

In these situations there is a chance someone was in a driveway; the clarity of these cameras is outstanding, Race said, adding that sharing the information puts more eyes out there.

Officials noted that in 2011, a Liberty Bank robbery was solved due to a surveillance camera.

Information for camera registration is being prepared to put on the police department’s website sometime in the near future.
