Madison Proposed Budget Increases Spending, Tax Rate: Report

A budget referendum date has been selected.

(Jack Kramer )

MADISON, CT — The revised 2019-20 proposed budget is $84.63 million which represents a 1.89 percent or $1.57 million increase, according to the Madison Source. A budget referendum is scheduled for May 14.

The town budget includes an increase of $150,000 for library operations and another $110,000 for Madison Ambulance Association. The schools budget is scheduled to decrease by $55,608, largely due to Island Avenue School closing, the Source reports.

It's estimated that the tax rate would increase slightly if the budget is approved. A homeowner with a house assessed at $400,000 would pay an additional $107 in taxes next year.
