Madison Residents Asked to Approve More Money for the Budget: Report
The funds, officials say, are needed due to a reduction in state funding.

MADISON, CT — Residents are being asked to approve a $561,784 special appropriation that was approved by the Finance Board for town departments and the Board of Education after the budget referendum process, the Madison Source reports.
The appropriation represents a 0.7 percent hike to the overall budget of $79.8 million. If approved, it means Madison's budget increase for this year will be 3.3 percent, the Source reports. The fiscal year began on July 1.
Some of the additional monies, if approved, will be returned to the Board of Education budget, $300,000, which had been reduced due to a reduction in state funding. Town officials say they will continue to plan for future reductions in state funds in subsequent budget years.
