Madison Road Work Leads to Proposed $400K Special Appropriation, Debate Among Officials: Report

A list of eight roads were approved for repairs but the First Selectman wanted to add seven others and that is where the debate takes off.

MADISON, CT — Ok, this is a bit complicated but here goes.

Earlier this year, town boards and commissions approved repairing these eight roads: Sperry Road, Aileen Road, Farm View Road, Buttonball Lane, Colonial Road, Tibbals Bridge Road, Hunters Trail, and County Road Bridge, the Madison Source reports.

But First Selectman Thomas Banisch and the Public Works Director wanted to repair these seven roads: Hunters Trail, Copse Road, Fort Path Road, Wildwood Avenue, Woodland Road, Lovers Lane, Duck Hole Road, River Road, and Race Hill Road, the Source adds.

Funds were originally only approved to repair the original eight roads and to rectify the issue the Board of Selectman voted to approve a special appropriation of $400,000 to cover all 15 roads. The funds still need additional approval by local commissions.

Banisch told the Madison Source that a procedural error was made but the issue has been corrected, while some other officials say that the special appropriation circumvents established procedures.
