Madison School Principal Departing District

School officials are working to hire a replacement.

Written by Tom Scarice, Madison Superintendent of Schools,

Good afternoon,

As you are aware, Island Avenue School Principal, Doreen O'Leary, shared earlier today that she has accepted a position as principal in Chappaqua, New York. I would first like to publicly recognize Doreen, congratulate her, and wish her all the best on this next chapter in her personal and professional life.

I would also like to take a moment to assure all members of the Island Avenue School community that, moving forward, we are entirely committed to continue to provide exemplary leadership to the Island Avenue School community, for students, staff, and parents. I have complete confidence that Island Avenue School will have the leadership in place to serve the entire school community during this transition period. I also want to reassure parents that an opportunity will be offered to families and staff to meet the new Island Avenue School Principal shortly after there is an appointment to the position. I will provide updates as quickly as possible.

For now, join me in congratulating Mrs. O'Leary, and wishing her the very best. Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions, comments, or other thoughts.

Tom Scarice
Superintendent of Schools

O'Leary wrote an email to parents saying:

Dear Island Avenue Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I share my news. At the end of this month, I will be leaving Madison Public Schools to assume the principal position at Roaring Brook Elementary School in Chappaqua, New York. I am grateful for the five years that I've spent at Island Avenue, and I'm so sorry to be leaving. However, with the scheduled closing of our school and the related elimination of my position in June 2019, this move is a necessity for my family. I am confident that Superintendent Scarice will provide Island Avenue School with strong leadership in the coming year, and I know he will reach out to you soon with more information.

With admiration and respect for all you do to support our schools,
Doreen O'Leary
