Madison Schools Chief Updates Reconfiguration Plans
The superintendent of schools shares the latest updates on upcoming changes to the school system.

Written by Madison Superintendent of Schools Thomas Scarice,
As the district transitions through our reconfiguration plan, the instructional model at Brown School will transition to serve 4th and 5th graders beginning in the 2019-2020 school year.
The Board of Education (BOE) maintains a steadfast commitment to providing developmentally appropriate programs and services for all students across the system.

In support of that commitment, the Facilities Committee of the BOE is exploring approaches that best serve all 4th and 5th graders within, and beyond, the classroom walls. Based on the recommendations of a professional committee of 4th and 5th grade teachers, P.E. teachers, special educators, and administrators, the Facilities Committee is contemplating the features of an "Outdoor Play and Learning" program (OPAL), on the Brown School campus as a central feature to the transition to a 4th/5th grade school.
All parents are invited to join the Facilities Committee of the Board of Education onOctober 2 at Brown School at 6:00 P.M. for a presentation and outdoor tour of the potential site of the OPAL project as the Committee continues to consider this program as a part of the Brown School transition. Following an outdoor tour of the area, a presentation will then be held indoors for the Facilities Committee members and any interested parents and community members. Please join us on October 2 at 6:00 P.M at Brown School.
