MADISON, CT — Schools Superintendent Dr. Craig Cooke updated families Friday with the latest on whether students and staff will be required to wear masks in the upcoming school year, a slated vaccine clinic for students and information about vaccine requirements, the latter not a mandate but rather a “family decision.”

Cooke said that the district is still awaiting “official guidance” from the state about mask wearing in schools for the 2021-2022 school year, which is expected in early August . In the meantime, Cooke encouraged families to review the district’s 20-page draft reopening plan and share questions or comments via email to MPSreopening@madison.k12.ct.us

Cooke also noted that a wellness and Covid-19 vaccine clinic for Madison students will take place Wednesday, July 28 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Daniel Hand High School. Click here for details.

Cooke also remanded families that whether or not a student is vaccinated is a “family decision.”

“If you chose to vaccinate your student(s), we ask that you share that information with your school nurse,” he said, adding that proof of vaccination should be submitted to the student’s medical provider to be added to the student’s official immunization record and once that has been completed, the pediatrician can then forward the updated immunization record to school district health offices.

“Knowing our students’ vaccination status will be helpful to our nurses as we return to school,” he said.
