Madison's Smoking Ban to Include Designated Smoking Areas

The ban is for all recreational facilities including beaches, parks, trails, playgrounds, and athletic fields.

This is the official wording from the town.

At its meeting of March 23 the Board of Selectmen adopted the following ordinance:

Section 14-55 Prohibited Activities
(21) Tobacco use prohibited in outdoor recreational facilities

“No person shall use any form of tobacco or electronic smoking devices at or on any Madison owned or operated outdoor recreational facilities, including the restrooms, parking lots, and spectator and concession areas, except in designated smoking areas. These facilities include all Madison parks, athletic fields, beaches, trails, parking lots, and playgrounds.”

The key addition to the ordinance is the fact designated areas we will be created. That part was not included in the original proposed ordinance.
