Masks Recommended But No Longer Required On Buses: Schools
As the CDC removed the requirement for masks on public transportation, which includes school buses, now, masks are optional, district says.

MADISON, CT — Sunday, schools Superintendent Dr. Craig Cooke told families that in addition to masks in schools now being recommended but not required, it's lifted the requirement for masking on school buses.
Cooke said that given the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention "recently announced it is removing the requirement for masking on public transportation, which includes school buses," beginning Monday, masks are optional.
"Wearing a mask on the school bus - while still recommended - will now be optional for all students," he said.

Last Friday, Cooke announced that masks in schools are recommended but not required. But, he pointed out in a message to students and families that "there are a few important things to keep in mind."
- Under the "mask recommended" model, the Department of Public Health (DPH) retains the authority to impose a universal mask mandate if there is a local or state-wide need due to an outbreak. Local school districts also maintain the ability to institute mask wearing due to local conditions.
- For the five days following the quarantine or isolation period, individuals are recommended to continue to wear a well-fitting mask in all settings.
- The CIAC has announced that masks will no longer be required at indoor or outdoor athletic practices and competitions. MPS will follow this guidance and not require masks for athletes. There is the potential that MPS athletic teams could compete at a facility/school with more stringent masking requirements. We would adhere to that requirement while competing. Please see the reopening addendum for further information and guidance related to this change.
Details of the new mask model, and updated health and safety guidance, can be found on the district website reopening plan spring addendum.
