New Gym Approved in Madison
The Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to approve the gym's application.

With New Year’s resolutions right around the corner, the time seems right for a new gym to open up in Madison.
The Madison Planning and Zoning Commission earlier in November unanimously approved allowing Anytime Fitness to open at 508 Old Toll Road.
The owner is North Madison Associates LLC and Jeffrey Merriam. The gym operates 24 hours a day, hence the name, Anytime Fitness.

Here is a recap of the discussion according to PZC meeting minutes.
Applicant Jeffrey Merriam stated that he would like to open the Anytime Fitness franchise at the site, which is currently two vacant spaces to the right of Robert’s Food Market; together they total 5,600 square feet.

The gym would have 24-hour access for members, who would enter with key passes; there would be several security features built into the site, and allowing 24-hour access is for members’ convenience, according to Mr. Merriam.
Town Planner David Anderson stated that the site was zoned for professional office use, but it previously had a Be Fit gym in it, which was open by appointment only with a professional trainer; this is a little different, because it is a professional gym with 24-hour access, and it requires a Special Exception Permit Modification to operate. Parking ratios and lighting would remain the same, according to Mr. Anderson.
There were no questions from the public.
