MADISON, CT —It's been a full year since the pandemic changed our lives and it's not over yet. But life goes on, albeit with workarounds for myriad things that we previously took for granted. Like fundraising, for example. Groups that help high school seniors to cover the costs of graduation celebrations depend on fundraisers, so they have to get creative.

$21 for the Class of '21 is just that kind of enterprising and inventive approach.

Known as Nite In Hand, the decades-long project to provide a safe, substance-free graduation celebration, has taken to GoFundMe to raise the money it needs for the annual event.

"As we continue to live with the Covid 19 pandemic, we are looking for your help to support the Daniel Hand High School Seniors, Class of 2021. Because many of our fundraisers cannot be held in person, we are relying on generous donations from friends, family and the Madison community so that we can continue the tradition of NIH for our Seniors," the GoFundMe appeal reads.

"This year marks the 33rd year for NIH and the NIH team is committed to ensuring that there is a safe and substance free celebration, even though it may take on a different form for this class. It is an evolving and fluid situation, and we are working with the community and school leaders to provide a Covid friendly event," the GoFundMe reads."These seniors have been hybrid all year and have had no opportunity to be together yet as a class. Our goal is to make that happen, and as conditions hopefully continue to improve, we are working hard to plan that for them."
