Growth Mindset

All children will face challenges and adversity as they develop. One of the most difficult aspects of parenting is how we teach our children to meet these challenges, and to believe that by using effective strategies and effort, they can overcome academic, interpersonal, and social challenges. One approach I find compelling is called a “growth mindset”. Carol Dweck, Lewis and Virginia Eaton Professor of Psychology at Stanford University. She has done a great deal of research on this topic. Please read this engaging article on ways that parents and educators can foster a growth mindset in their children.

Although it contains a good deal of “eduspeak”, I am confident that most will find our thoughts compelling. The opinion piecewas reprinted in the online Education Blog for the Washington Post.
