Obituary: Edmund W. Duenkel, 73

He was the co-owner of the Circle Country Store in North Madison.

Edmund W. Duenkel, 73, of New Haven passed away peacefully at the Mary Wade Home on September 15, 2017 from complications of Lewy-Body Dementia. He was born on January 24, 1944 in New Haven, son of the late Albert and Bernice (Pniewski) Duenkel.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra (Wilson) Duenkel (his "Rock"). He is also survived by his beloved son, Edmund W. Duenkel, II, ("My Bambino") along with Edmund's mother, Patricia (Mase) Duenkel, both of New Haven. He is survived by five siblings: Albert (Helen) Duenkel of CA, Paul Duenkel of Clinton, Judi ("My Seester") (Fred) Becker of Saratoga, CA, Conrad (Elizabeth) Duenkel of New Haven, and George (Marcia) Duenkel of North Branford, as well as several nieces and nephews.

He also leaves his loving best friends, Pat ("Patty Me Boy") D'Angelo and The Binge Buddy. Ed graduated from Wilbur Cross High School, class of 1962, and in 1963 from the NY School of Broadcasting. He was a radio announcer at WLIS in Old Saybrook and NY. He also proudly served six years in the CT National Guard. He was the proprietor of The Turtle of Old Saybrook, Executive Lounge of New Haven and co-owner of the Circle Country Store in North Madison. He spent many years in food and retail management. He also worked at Yale University Local #35 for ten years prior to his retirement.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the nurses, aides and staff of The Mary Wade Home for their loving care and support.Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, September 20th, from 9:30-10:30am at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St., Branford, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11:00am at St. Bernadette's Church, 385 Townsend Ave., New Haven.

Burial will be private. At the request of the family, In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lewy-Body Dementia Association (LBDA.org) or the Mary Wade Home, 118 Clinton Ave., New Haven, CT, 06512.
