Obituary: Elmer Hugo “Johnny” Johnson, 92, of Madison
He worked for the Shoreline Times and retired from Beauvais Printing.

Elmer Hugo “Johnny” Johnson, age 92, longtime resident of Madison, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Middlesex Hospice, Middletown, CT on September 15, 2017. He was the beloved husband of 65 years of the late Naida Elliott Johnson.
He was born in Springfield, MA on June 22, 1925, son of Hugo August and Elsie Lillian Johnson. He is survived by his daughter, Sandy Johnson Haslam and her husband Cliff of Madison and his son Rick Johnson and his wife, Kristen of Monroe.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Christopher, Kelsey and James Johnson. He was predeceased by his three sisters, Alma MacLenna, Ruth Walz and Gladys St. Peter. He worked for many years as a printer, starting his career at Milton Bradley in Springfield, MA, before moving to Madison to go to work for the Shoreline Times and retired from Beauvais Printing.
Elmer enjoyed fishing and looked forward to the season opening day each April. Boating, woodworking, gardening and catching Red Sox games at Fenway Park brought him much happiness. Elmer was a World War II veteran, enlisting in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18 and stationed on the USS LSM-16, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

He served as a Signalman, Second Class and was honorably discharged in April, 1946.Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, September 20 from 5 - 8 pm at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 21 at 10 am at the Guilford Funeral Home. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Jannas Lane, Madison.
