Helen C. Collins of Madison passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Born in New Haven on July 20, 1912, daughter of the late Martin and Mary Elizabeth (Scanlon) Casey.
Predeceased by her husband Clarence Collins, brother Pierce Casey and sister Ann Dunn, Helen was the loving mother of the late William T. Collins, James M. Collins, Gerald J. Collins and the late Beatrice LaRoche. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, plus nieces and nephews.

Described as "sharp as a tack," Helen was a long-time resident of the Hearth of Tuxis Pond, where she was an active member of the bridge club and knitting groups which made caps and layettes for local newborn babies. She was a lifetime fan of the UConn Women's Basketball team and the Boston Red Sox.
Trained as a schoolteacher, Helen taught 5th grade for a year in East Haven before getting married in 1933. After her youngest started school, she worked as a secretary then for sugar broker Austin Gosling before becoming an employee of the State of Connecticut.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice Organization of your choice. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield St., Guilford on Monday, July 18th at 11am. Burial will be private.
