MADISON, CT — As the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation seeks to redevelop a 300-year-old home at 6 Opening Hill Road in Madison, several residents are opposing the plans, the Hartford Courant reported.

The foundation, which focuses on education with an emphasis on art, the environment and learning differences, is looking to move its headquarters from New Haven to the Madison property.

For decades, the Tremaine family reportedly owned the 6.2-acre property, which was part of a 76-acre estate, which was sold in 1994. Last year, the foundation paid nearly $1 million for the historic home and parcel.

Residents oppose the redevelopment of the property, because they do not want to see the parcel, located in a quiet, residential part of town, commercialized.

The foundation is scheduled to go before the Madison Planning and Zoning Commission in May to request a special zoning exception, according to the publication.
