Public Hearing Scheduled on Proposed Senior Tax Freeze Program in Madison
Town officials are considering a senior tax freeze program for qualifying seniors and or disabled homeowners.

MADISON, CT — A public hearing will be held on Monday, Dec. 19 at 7:15 p.m. in Town Campus Room A to discuss in part a proposal for a senior tax freeze program for certain elderly and/or disabled homeowners, according to Board of Selectmen meeting minutes.
According to recent meeting minutes, Bennett Pudlin, Board of Finance member stated that he has been working on the Senior Tax Freeze Ordinance for a while. Mr. Pudlin noted that after the Board of Finance approved the Ordinance, he and Chairman MacDougald met with Town staff to clarify any concerns that had been raised.

Based on this review, there were further changes made and then the Town Attorney sent another revised draft on Friday afternoon, meeting minutes state. These changes are not substantive in the sense that they did not affect eligibility or benefit amount, meeting minutes state.
Therefore the revised draft does not need to be brought back to the Board of Finance for approval. There is one minor grammatical error that should be changed where residents are referred to as applicant versus person.

He offered his thanks and congratulations for an incredible amount of work across boards, staff and an Ad-hoc committee; and noted that the Town is now able to approve a product that is best for its residents.
First Selectman Thomas Banisch stated that despite the fact that the changes were not substantive, Ms. Carroll and Ms. Nucolo did an incredible amount of work to streamline and revise the document.
MOVED by Selectwoman Walker and seconded by Selectman Goldberg to APPROVE calling a Public Hearing on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 7:15 p.m. in Town Campus Room A.
